I wouldn't be a Principal Dancer at the American Ballet Theater if it wasn't for the Boys & Girls Clubs.

I am forever grateful.

Challenge

Many children in our community face insurmountable odds in attaining basic needs, let alone achieving their goals and dreams. The youth population in the Los Angeles Harbor area is over 37,400.

More than one-third of these kids live in households below the poverty level.

Without intervention, only 65% of local youth are expected to graduate from high school.

Solution

We serve nearly 2,600 youth each day. We offer well-rounded, comprehensive after-school choices using the Triple-A Strategy: Academics, Arts and Athletics.

  • Tutoring

  • College readiness

  • Performing and fine arts

  • Video and music labs

  • Science and robotics

  • Organized sports and free play

In the safety of our Clubs, kids can be kids — exploring, learning and developing into productive and self-sufficient adults. It is up to us to assure these vital programs are provided to the growing number of at-risk youth in our community.

THE OPPORTUNITY BRIDGE

Investing in the Future of Our Youth

CAMPAIGN GOAL

Raise $9 million to:

  • Improve three Club facilities

  • Sustain and expand our programming and serve more kids

  • Build our endowment and operating reserves

Your support will ensure children and teens most in need can rely on a safe environment to experience arts, sports, educational enrichment and, most importantly, the mentoring and support they need to succeed throughout their lives.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the LA Harbor serve

2600 kids a day.

This is more than any other club in Los Angeles County.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor is committed to providing a bridge to opportunity for the youth in our community by providing solutions to the challenges they face.

Capital Improvements

Our San Pedro, Wilmington and Port of Los Angeles Clubhouses will undergo significant facility improvements. We will upgrade and secure our IT infrastructure in all 6 Clubhouses and 12 school sites.

Program Sustainability and Expansion

To accomplish our vision, we must serve more kids in more locations. In addition to San Pedro and Wilmington, we have recently increased our service area to include Harbor City, Harbor Gateway, Gardena and Torrance.  We will need to sustain a team of more than 100 full and part-time staff. This includes hiring, training, and retaining exceptional staff members to comprise the front lines of our initiatives.

Endowment and Reserve Fund Development

We must grow our endowment and reserve resources so that our sustainability is guaranteed. This will ensure that we remain in our 18 locations and can expand facilities, programs, and services as necessary. Our goals cannot remain dreams; they are essential to the promising futures boys and girls deserve. This campaign will provide the resources necessary for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor to invest in our community’s greatest asset — our youth.
